Torrox Costa

Torrox Costa is a thriving coastal town that has grown from a quiet fishing hamlet into one of the most popular seaside destinations in the Axarquía. Situated just 6 km from Torrox Pueblo, this modern resort town is famous for its long beaches, vibrant promenade, and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. Unlike the traditional village, Torrox Costa has a flat layout, making it easily walkable and ideal for those who enjoy seafront living with modern amenities.

The town’s history stretches back to Roman times, and archaeological remains can still be found at the Roman site of Caviclum, where visitors can see ancient baths, villas, and mosaics. Despite its historical roots, Torrox Costa’s main growth began in the 1960s and 70s, when it developed into a residential and tourist hotspot, attracting visitors from Germany, the UK, and Scandinavia. Today, it has a significant expatriate community, many of whom choose Torrox Costa for its mild climate, excellent beaches, and modern infrastructure.

The Paseo Marítimo de Torrox is the town’s centrepiece, a beautiful seafront promenade lined with restaurants, chiringuitos (beach bars), shops, and open-air terraces. Popular beaches such as Playa Ferrara and Playa El Peñoncillo offer golden sands, clear waters, and excellent facilities for families and sunseekers. The area also provides plenty of outdoor activities, including beach volleyball, paddle surfing, kayaking, and scuba diving. For those interested in horse riding, nearby equestrian centres offer rides along the beach and countryside excursions.

While Torrox Costa shares municipal services and cultural events with Torrox Pueblo, it has its own town hall branch, schools, medical centre, and shopping facilities, making it largely self-sufficient. It offers a diverse property market, from modern beachfront apartments to traditional townhouses, catering to both permanent residents and holidaymakers.

Torrox Costa is perfect for those looking for a coastal lifestyle with all the conveniences of a modern town while still maintaining close ties to the traditions and heritage of inland Torrox Pueblo. Whether for a holiday home, retirement, or year-round living, this vibrant seaside town provides an ideal mix of sun, sea, and community spirit.
